What is sugaring? Sugaring is a 100% natural (and edible!) method of hair removal, free from resins and toxins. Made of just three ingredients—sugar, water and lemon—this ancient method of hair removal is the natural answer to beauty and smooth skin. Though it has only recently been introduced in the West, it has been used in Africa and the Middle East for thousands of years. A fabulous alternative to wax and waxing. Once you try it you'll never go back!
How does body sugaring work? The warmed sugar paste is molded onto the body area several times using a gloved hand. As this is being molded, the sugar paste is able to melt into the hair follicle allowing an easier, gentle extraction from the root. With a flicking motion the hair is gently lifted out of the follicle by the root. Your hair needs to be at least 1/8" (about the length of a grain of rice) to effectively come out.
Will it work for me? Sugaring is effective on thick & thin hair on old and young bodies. So far, sugaring is effective on everyone that we've worked on over the past 6 years. For some people it will take 2-3 consistent treatments to get the smoothness that we are all looking for. This is due to hair being in different growth stages. Is it going to hurt? Sugaring is removing the hair by the root, so you will feel the extractions. Some people feel a tingling sensation. With repeated treatments, this sensation is minimized as the hair becomes more refined and the hair bulb is smaller. Many clients think it feels like a “mini massage”, as the sugar paste is being molded and find it very relaxing.
How long does it last? Rate of hair growth depends on the individual person. Expect to be ready for another sugaring within 3-6 weeks. Hair can be extracted as short as 1/16th inch. For a quicker diminishment of hair growth, do not allow it to get any longer than 1/8th inch.
I'm pregnant, can I still get sugared? Yes! We have tons of experience with pregnant women and we love to sugar mamas. We will position you to accommodate your needs. Just know that you will most likely be more sensitive than normal, particularly in the bikini area.
What should I do before my appointment? No suntanning prior to a treatment. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine. Keeping your skin exfoliated and hydrated is very important however, do not exfoliate the day before or the day of a treatment.
What should I do after my appointment? You may feel a little sensitive. Avoid any creams, lotions, or deodorants with artificial fragrances. Do not use any products with hydroxy acids for at least 24-48 hrs. This could cause more sensitivity. Also, avoid hot tubs/springs, sweat-inducing exercise and tight clothes for 24 hours. If you can’t avoid it, just give yourself a good shower afterwards.
Salt Compresses To speed healing you can apply a salt water compress. Salt acts as a catalyst and speeds up the healing process. Dissolve 1⁄2 teaspoon salt in 1⁄4 cup warm water. Saturate a cotton pad and apply to affected area.
Dead Sea Salt Soak Dissolve 1⁄2 cup dead sea salts in a warm tub. Soak for no longer than 15 minutes, or skin will become dehydrated.
Exfoliation Exfoliation is very important. Use a sugar scrub, exfoliating pads or exfoliating gloves 2-3 times per week (or more often if needed) in the shower to remove dead skin cells. The hair is missing out of the follicle for approximately 3 weeks. This allows the dead skin cells to grow over the mouth of the follicle. Exfoliating will allow the hair to grow up and out. Moisturizing every day with a fragrance-free lotion or oil will help prevent the build-up of dead skin cells.
NOTE: Medical experts recommended abstaining from sexual activity for the first 48 hours after any type of bikini hair removal. This time period is when your body is most susceptible to outside bacteria which can potentially cause an infection. Please text/email if you have any concerns or questions
